94 water purity test

Water purity test result

The society conducted 94 water tests. The Malanad Development Society lab has the capacity to test only 8 samples at a time. A test needs 48 hours. They were kind enough to test the samples at he cheapest rate. The Society concentrated in Bateriological test. Out of 94 samples we could find only 13 samples without Ecoli and Klebsella. Ecoli is generated from the stool of human being and Klebsella is from bio mass and animal waste. Only 13.68% of the protected water source is pure. Rest of the 86.32% water source is contaminated. All the water samples from stream and pond are contaminated. The water from tube well is also contaminated with Ecoli and Klebsella and one sample contained Ecoli 3000/ 100ml and the other has Ecoli 6000 /100 ml and Klebsella 58,000/100ml. The contamination in the stream water at Mangalagiry -the starting point of Meenachil river- is 3000 with Klebsella. The so called pure water provided by the Muncipality after ‘proper’ treatment contains more than the Ecoli and Klebsella that is seen in any pond where people take bath and sock their dress. First sample taken from Municipality on 2nd June contained Ecoli 6000 /100 ml and second sample taken on 26th June 2004 contained Ecoli 4000/ 100ml and Klebsella1000/100ml. It is a fact that none of the ponds contained Ecoli. The range of Ecoli presence is 1000-40000 and Klebsella is 200-200000. One sample was left out as uncountable. The more repeated number of Ecoli is 2000 ( 6 times ) and of Klebsella is 1000 ( 18 times ) and the second is 3000 with nine times. Ecoli alone sample is one. Presence of both contamination is 28 ie, 29.5 %of the entire samples. Presence of Klebsella alone is 52 ie. 54.7 % of the samples. People have to take conscious steps to avoid the contamination. To an extend this result can explain the reason behind the high rate of diseases and some families where one or the other suffer from diseases every time.
